I believe that the person ultimately heals themselves and that I am a partner in their journey to health.
When I was a child, I loved to be helpful, make people laugh and enjoyed food and cooking – I still do! A favorite class in junior high was when we learned about nutrition – I thought this extremely exciting at the time. My mother always told me I should be a nurse, but somehow that didn’t quite fit my 'free spirit'.
I attended Indiana University and in 1975 received a B.S. in Special Education. During these years, I started taking yoga classes, became a Buddhist, and started successfully selling Shaklee vitamins. The Shaklee Corporation and my Shaklee supervisor continually educated me in nutrition and environmental issues, which ignited a passion that has continued. In 1976-1977, I opened and closed the Wildflower Vegetarian Restaurant (Indiana), and then continued for a few years to cater vegetarian food for concert venues (lots of work, but fun!) In 1977, I gave birth to my daughter - Hillary. (We immigrated to Canada in 1989 and became Canadian citizens in 1992.)
Fast forward to 1994! My sister Christine, who lives in Chicago, kept telling me about ‘the machine’ - a computerized system that someone was using to tell her what foods she could and could not eat. I thought this sounded quite nutty and I tried to ignore her, but she wouldn’t be deterred. Christine said – “you need to do this, this would make so much sense for you do to this”. Guess what, she was right! Along with a friend of mine, we both purchased an Omega AcuBase System, started a business called Omega Health Associates, did the training inToronto and began educating on the ‘computerized bioenergetic system’ and testing people all overNova Scotia and into New Brunswick. I was again passionate about what I was doing to help others in a real fundamental way – people were feeling better and telling all their friends and family --- this continues today --- incredibly, I have tested over 10,000 people!!!
At the age of 50, I decided to further my education in this field and to deepen my understanding of oriental medicine energetics and herbs. I made the decision to move to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and completed a 4 year graduate program in Oriental Medicine at SouthwestAcupuncture College in 2005. I returned to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2006 and began my practice at Therapeutic Approach Health Centre and have now opened a clinic - Ocean Heart Wellness Centre (January 1, 2014) www.oceanheartwellness.com where I continue to use the – Meridian Stress Assessment System (the 21st century version of the Omega AcuBase System), along with acupuncture, energy healing, herbs and nutrition. I am a joyful grandmother of three children. I am truly blessed and so grateful to be of some help to others on a daily basis!
